Johnsonville is clearly out in front, have they bolted?  They have a mix of games to play in terms of where their opposition are on the table as it stands.  That might suggest to some that their 14 point gap on the field has the potential to be retained?  I am sure Silverstream, Tawa, Stokes Valley, Plimmerton and so on will disagree.  Wow, Silverstream climbed the ladder with a 24 point maximum result last weekend against Petone Central.  Petone Central have, almost always contested the top 4 area of the table, so a big win for Silverstream.
We are, of course, really interested in top 4 for now, so that has a long way to go to be settled.  Right now, in addition to Johnsonville there are 6 other contenders for top 4 slots.  To be fair, there is also the Petone Central vs Hutt fixture to complete, so that will have some bearing.
Miramar, Petone Central and Hutt are likely not out of contention right now, especially as the latter 2 of these could well jump up the field a bit when there “Not Completed” fixture is indeed completed.  Still all 3 clubs do need to lift their game somewhat if they are to avoid the relegation zone.

Like the women, has the top team, Stokes Valley bolted?  Their playing depth will be tested with Blake Signal away in Hong Kong representing New Zealand, and Finbar McGiugan has been over in Malaysia.  But then the players who played when quite a few of the usual team were playing the Nelson pairs tournament did very well.
Also like the women, for now we focus more on the top four situation.  With 5 rounds to go I would suggest all teams have a shot at the top 4?  Wainuiomata is in the relegation zone, but can still make it.  Indeed if you were to focus on where their forthcoming opposition are currently on the table, you might fall into the trap of saying their chances are not the worst!  But remember bowls results don’t often take a jot of notice positions on a table.  It means a lot of intrigue coming up!  Bring it on.

Will I say it yet again?  Why not, the Men’s Div 2 is usually the strongest competed division.  Silverstream, Island Bay, Lyall Bay and Upper Hutt have all recently tasted the Div 1 level, Titahi Bay have gone close in recent years, and Whitby is the new kid on the block so to speak.  Silverstream have a surmountable lead, with Island Bay on their heels.  Silverstream appear to have a tough last 5 rounds, compared to others, playing the other 4 of the current top 5 teams.  Titahi Bay and Stokes Valley are currently in the relegation zone so need to pick their game up a bit.  Given the tightness of competition usually found in this division, it is a still wait and see how things unfold.

Pretty close division here.  Just 1 point separating Karori and Silverstream, with Stokes Vally very close 3 points behind Silverstream.   With a 12 team division luck of the random draw has the potential to play its part.  Karori are yet to play both Silverstream and Stokes valley, with the latter 2 not playing each other at all.  Victoria had a real rough start to the year, having to default and drop -42 in the opening double header, with Silverstream and Karori being the benefactors with 21 points each.  However since then Victoria have won 4 games out of 6 played, including 2 winning and 1 losing bonus.  That -42 has been dramatically reduced.  Whilst there is no relegation, I am sure the Victorian team wants to get well into the positive territory.  They do have some of the lower placed teams to play over the next 5 rounds, so we shall see how it all plays out.
