Men’s singles opening rounds

Horrendous conditions for play here today, cold, high winds and the odd drizzle.

Match of the day, defending champion Tim Toomey was up against our new Scottish import. Tim was drawing and driving well to be up 18-7. When Steve was grouping shots, Tim was killing ends. Steve picked up a 3 & a 4 to pull up close. At 20-18, Tim’s first two bowls sailed into the ditch with the wind behind. Steve piled on the pressure, drawing a back jammer, and two bowls a foot away. One of the better heads of the day. He actually held 4 when Tim’s last bowl, and there were gaps on head so he decided to draw. His last was a bit skinny though, so Steve completed a fantastic comeback.
