Well done to Laurie Guy for winning the lastest PBA ranking singles at the Heretaunga Club in Hastings. Laurie had to come through a tough quarterfinal over Lou Newman winning in the third end of a tiebreak, but then went on to beat Steve Love (Manawatu) in the final 7-6, 7-3. This was Laurie’s 2nd rankings event win of the season and 6th tournament win in his PBA career but he has been unable to triumph in one of the qualifying events for a trip to the UK.
Laurie continued his good form the next day but fell in the semifinal of the International Singles qualifier to the near unbeatable Murray Glassey (Hawkes Bay) 7-6, 9-4 having knocked out Hayley May earlier in the day.
Laurie has finished 6th in the New Zealand PBA rankings (pending results from Finals Weekend) again just missing out on a place in the NZ PBA team to challenge the Australian PBA next year. Richard Corry finished in 18th place.
