Nicole to join Junior World Cup team

Nicole Toomey has been selected as the final member of the New Zealand Junior World Cup team after Bowls NZ was offered the opportunity to include an additional woman in the team.

The event, which will be held at Queensland’s Broadbeach Club, features men’s and women’s singles and mixed pairs. Toomey will pair with Ireland’s Shane Leonard for the mixed pairs competition.

“World Bowls gave Bowls NZ the opportunity to select another girl to play in this event and we didn’t hesitate as this is a great learning experience for our up and coming players” said National Coach Dave Edwards. “We also didn’t hesitate in selecting Nicole Toomey as the extra girl due to her great exploits at the recent Heartland Bank National Open Championships”.

This will be Nicole’s second international appearance behind playing in the U18 2013 Trans-Tasman. She, along with Katelyn Inch and Sheldon Bagrie-Howley, who will all be sharing in their first time competing at this level, will benefit from the experience provided Selina Goddard and Euan Wong who competed in the event last year.

The full Junior World Cup team is:

Selina Goddard
Katelyn Inch
Nicole Toomey

Sheldon Bagrie-Howley
Euan Wong
