Nicole Toomey won the Regional Secondary Schools Singles play-offs in Wanganui and will play in the national finals in Christchurch in December. Nic represents St. Mary’s College.

Helen King put in a very creditable performance winning 4 matches out of 5 games to come runner-up in the National Club (Pathways) Singles finals at the Naenae club. Helen beat the eventual winner Wynette McGlachlan (South Otago) but lost out on the title on differential.

Corner to Corner Round 10 & the Finale Saturday night

It’s your last chance to win a heat of the Grant’s Whiskey Corner to Corner competition this Saturday night after everyone has come back from playing in the Wellington Open Pairs. And stick around, as the Club Grand Final will be played straight afterward to decide our champion.

The winner will represent our club in the Wellington play-offs 6pm next Friday night at Wilton following the first day’s play in the Wilton Classic. And will receive a Grant’s Whiskey bowls bag!

Corner to Corner Round 5 & Club Champs this weekend

Round 5 of the Grant’s Whiskey Corner to Corner will run this Saturday at lunchtime 12noon in a break between Club Champ games.

There are also plenty of matches to watch over the next three days with the 2009-10 Mens Junior Pairs final at 5pm Friday night, Mens Singles, Pairs & Junior Singles games, and Womens Fours (2 games Saturday), singles and triples in action.

Club indoor singles champs – 30th May

The Victoria club singles champs for indoor bowls will be on the afternoon of Sunday 30th May. Dust off those old skills and take on the current hot shots. Names in by 12.45 for a 1pm kick-off. There will be three games to qualify for the knockout rounds.

The winner will represent Victoria in the Hutt Valley champ-of-champ singles on July 24th. The winner of that competition then goes on to the New Zealand Henselite singles in Ash-vegas (last year’s Hutt Valley champ won the NZ title!).

Senior mens champs done and dusted

The Senior Mens club championships were all done and dusted yesterday with the fours final won by Lou Newman’s team over Wayne Coleman’s four. All results are available on the Competitions page. And thanks to Bazza for keeping things on time.

The womens club champs resume next weekend with the pairs, after regional interclub, centre, national and age group competitions over the last couple of weeks. And junior mens competitions come to a climax with the start of the 1st year singles and finish of the junior singles – markers welcome.

Seen here are the winners Lou Newman, John Hunter (congrats on Lou and John for a three-peat in the fours), Alf De Munnik and Mark Allen. Their prizemoney didn’t last long…

CLUB CHAMP MENS FOURS

Skips must arrange a day and time for completion of Rounds 4 & 5 to be played no later than Sunday 7th February. Please advise Bazza of your time.

CLUB CHAMP MENS SINGLES

Due to Jamie Coleman and Tim Toomey playing in the Wellington rep team, their respective quarterfinal matches need to be played no later than Saturday 30th January. Please advise Bazza of your time.

The catch-up match between Paul Brophy and Maurice Andrews needs to be played no later than Saturday 30th January. Please advise Bazza of your time.

The bottom half of the post-section draw will play two rounds on Sunday 31st January.

CLUB CHAMP MENS JUNIOR SINGLES

Players must arrange a day and time for the remainder of Round 2 & 3 matches no later than Saturday 30th January. Please advise Bazza of your time.

Players should also be arranging catch-up matches for all remaining section play games in the Mens Champ Fours and Mens Champ Junior Singles.

Although not officially declared on the Bowls Taranaki or Wellington websites, we have heard that the Kittyhawk Regional Qualifying event which was to be held in Taranaki on 16th January, has now been postponed until March due to a lack of available greens. We will endeavour to keep you updated on developments regard this.
