It was another near thing when Richard Corry fell in the final of a PBA Ranking Singles event at the Heretaunga Club in Hastings this month to NZ number one Murray Glassey (Hawkes Bay). Rich has had a number of close finals against Murray over the years and was up a set only to go down 11-6, 6-7, 0-2 in a tiebreaker to his nemesis. Rich played well all day knocking over clubmates Ray Martin and Bradley Down on the way.
Bradley’s performance reaching the semifinal may have racked up enough ranking points to make the NZ PBA team to play the Australian PBA next year but this won’t be decided until Finals Weekend at Naenae on 8-10th September.
Ray reached the quarterfinals of the International Singles qualifier the next day and may have done enough to capture the NZ PBA Rookie of the Year trophy. Tim Toomey also made the quarterfinal stage.
