Well done Bradley!

Well done to Bradley Down for combradley down and seamus curtaining runner-up in the National Under 18 singles at the Papanui club in Canterbury over the Easter weekend. Unfortunately Bradley was dominated in the final by fellow Wellingtonian Seamus Curtain (Stokes Valley). Seamus went up 7-0 after three ends, Bradley picked up a four but Seamus then accelerated away to win 21-6. This turned the tables from earlier in the week when Bradley beat Seamus in the Wellington Secondary Schools boys singles final.

Bradley beat Leighton Shanks (Gisborne-East Coast) in the semifinal.

Well done Bradley & Amber!

bradley and amber downCongratulations to Bradley Down winning the College Sport Wellington Boys Singles Championship playing out of Onslow College and beating Seamus Curtain (Aotea) 16-11 in the final.

And sister and new Victoria member Amber Down taking out the Girls Singles as well. Amber also attends Onslow College and was a most emphatic winner in the final beating Sarah Goddard (Marsden College) 21-4.

Well done Bradley!

bradley down and lisa whiteGreat work from Bradley Down picking up two club titles in his first season playing club champs at Victoria, and going on to reach the quarterfinal of the Wellington Champ of Champ fours last week (which equalled the furtherest he had been in a Wellington senior event), and winning the Champ of Champ singles this week.

17 year old Bradley proved too good for Gavin McLeod (Tawa) in the final at Johnsonville on Sunday posting a 21-14 victory. He had been up 17-5 at one stage before a fightback from Gavin.

The semifinal against Brent Stubbins (Lyall Bay) was a very tight affair and came down to an umpire’s measure with both players confident they had shot at 19-19 and time limit reached.

Brad has won the Wellington 1-10 year Development Pairs and the Champ of Champ Junior Singles in previous seasons for Plimmerton.

Well done Tereska, Kay, Helen & Leigh

Congratulations to Tereska Knap, Kay Carr, Helen King and Leigh Griffin successfully defending the Wellington Champ of Champ Fours they won last seasons. They were comfortable winners throughout most of their games beating Upper Hutt 22-4 in the semifinal and Lyall Bay 19-9 in the final at Titahi Bay on Sunday.

This was Tereska’s 2nd, Kay’s 12th, Helen’s 24th and Leigh’s 29th Wellington titles!

The Victoria men of Richard Corry, Colvin Inglis, Bradley Down and Raymond Martin lost to the eventual winners Naenae in the quarterfinals 19-27.

Victoria strengthen’s its position in 2nd place in the Women’s Club of the Year competition but the men’s win increases the chances of Naenae doing the double for 2015-16.
