Richard Corry with replacement lead Peter Rintoul has defended the Wellington Catholic Open Pairs title in indoor bowls. Rich and last year’s lead Mary-Ann Wilson had an easy section play night but Mary-Ann was too sick to contest the post-section night so Peter came in as super sub in his first season of indoor bowls.
The final was very close with scores all level playing the last end. Rich had to kill the end with his last bowl and enforce Rule 28 allowing an additional end but drop three shots. Peter and Rich, however nailed the extra end picking up a 5 on Maree and Kevin Crighton (Vogelmorn) to win 13-11.
This was Peter’s 1st Wellington Catholic and Richard’s 8th title (including 5 wins in this event).
