Well done Mens Premier team!

Congratulations to the Men’s Premier team who have won the Wellington Premier Interclub competition for the first time since 2004!  For Lou Newman, this was a record sixth Premier Interclub win, but the first for every other member of the team. The team of Laurie Guy (singles), Richard Corry and Ray Martin (pairs), and Alf De Munnik, Tim Toomey, Jamie Coleman and Lou Newman (fours) finished with 44 points, Wilton were second with 37, Stokes Valley (who lead after the first round) 27 and Johnsonville 26. It was a nervous finish which relied on a miracle bowl from Johnsonville fours skip Brendon Gibson in the 16th end to turn a head from 4 down to 3 up against Wilton, to prevent Wilton’s charge in the last round from overtaking us.  The Regional Playoffs are in Taranaki on Saturday March 2nd.  Victoria now sits in 4th place in Rich’s unofficial Men’s Club of the year standings.

Winning sides elsewhere in the region so far are:

Alton
Singles – Tony Koubaridis
Pairs – Mark Anderson, Grant Anderson
Fours – Brian Anderson, Rex Ansley, John Roberts, Bruce Phillips

Aramoho
Fours – Keith Slight (s), Dave Anderson, Kevin La Roche, Garry Petersen
Pairs –  Peter Belliss (s), Kevin Coombe
Singles – Sean Johnson

Kapiti Coast interclub culminates on Saturday 16th February.

The Women’s Premier team finished in second place with 39 points behind an impressive Johnsonville’s 65 points, but ahead of Island Bay’s 29 points and Stokes Valley’s 1 point. Victoria now sits in 1st place in Rich’s unofficial Women’s Club of the Year standings.

Last week, the Men’s Division 5 side won their competition by a comfortable 16 points.
